The Radio Equipment Directive (2014/53/EU), known as RED, establishes a regulatory framework for the market placement of radio equipment within the European Union, ensuring safety, health, electromagnetic compatibility, and efficient use of the radio spectrum. Adopted on April 16, 2014, and applicable from June 13, 2016, it applies to all EU member states and the European Economic Area. The directive includes provisions to enhance cybersecurity, particularly through Articles 3(3)(d), (e), and (f), which were activated by a Delegated Act. These articles focus on preventing the misuse of network resources, protecting personal data and privacy, and implementing measures against fraud. These cybersecurity requirements are crucial for internet-connected and wearable radio equipment, ensuring these devices are secure and protect user data effectively.
